Usually an earthquake because of the technic plates that press against each other causing the earth to move making the ocean really rough, sending a series of waves (a tsunami) towards land.
Learning how to stay safe in events like these are vital. During a tsunami it is best to go to high ground like a hill. Somewhere where the wave can’t reach. If you are on a boat in the ocean it is best to go more out to sea. That way the tsunami can’t get you. Ways to tell if there is going to be a tsunami is the ocean shore is lower than usual. During an event like this, don’t wait! Act fast.
