Why We Should Have More Interschools

Oamaru Intermediate School

Pembroke Street Oamaru

9400

Dear Mrs Healy,

I strongly think that Oamaru Intermediate school should have more Interschools because having an interschool can allow students and teachers to gain new bonds, we can make new friends, and even start a school tradition! Secondly, it can be used as an opportunity for students to try new things such as new sports. We would be able to learn different skills & both in school & out. Values such as respecting each other, teamwork, learning how to work together as a team, kindness, being kind to everyone, the opposition, team members, other teachers etc. From all this, we will be able to learn new skills, values, start new bonds etc. Wouldn’t that be the IDEAL safe and happy learning environment?

Firstly, I believe that Oamaru Intermediate School should have more interschools because it can be a way for students and/or teachers to meet new people, build up new friendships, start new bonds, and even start a new interschool tradition with that school. I think this would be a great way for students to get to know eachother better.

Secondly, having more interschools will allow students to be more active. Students would be more fit and healthy. More interschools can also act as a new opportunity for students to try/play new & different sports. A great way for students to get out and be more active. Gives students a chance to experience the competitiveness within sports if they have not played sports before.

Lastly, I strongly believe that we should have more interschools within the school year because it is a new/different way of learning. We can learn different skills, understand sports and competition better, learn different values like we have here at school like respect as in respecting the opposition, coaches, referees etc.teamwork, having the experience of being in a team, kindness, being kind to one another and other IDEAL values Oamaru Intermediate have..

In conclusion, I think that Oamaru Intermediate school should have more interschools within our school years because of the experience, the different opportunities, different new skills we can learn, even start a new inter school tradition! Start new bonds and make new friends with students/teachers from other schools. Overall, learn new things, build up a kind, respectful, hard working school. Wouldn’t that be the IDEAL perfect school?

Yours Sincerely,

Lesieli

What Causes A Tsunami?

What Causes A Tsunami?

A tsunami is a series of big waves. A tsunami is a natural disaster. They are very dangerous. It can usually happen after a major Earthquake, a volcanic eruption underwater and/or an asteroid or a meteor crash inside the ocean. These can kill so it is very important to stay safe from a tsunami. So during one, it is best to go to high ground on a hill.

A tsunami is a big title wave and/or a series of waves. They can generally come from a large lake or the ocean. Tsunamis are natural disasters. They can reach upto 100 ft high. The world’s biggest tsunami happened in Lituya Bay, Alaska and reached 1720 ft high. Tsunamis can usually occur most often in the Pacific Ocean and Indonesia because of the pacific rim bordering the ocean which has a large number of active earthquakes and volcanoes.

The cause of a tsunami can occur after a major earthquake, volcanic eruption underwater, landslides and/or simply, an asteroid or a meteor crash inside of the ocean. Usually an earthquake because of the technic plates that press against each other causing the earth to move making the ocean really rough, sending  a series of waves (a tsunami) towards land.

Learning how to stay safe in events like these are vital. During a tsunami it is best to go to high ground like a hill. Somewhere where the wave can’t reach. If you are on a boat in the ocean it is best to go more out to sea. That way the tsunami can’t get you. Ways to tell if there is going to be a tsunami is the ocean shore is lower than usual. During an event like this, don’t wait! Act fast.

100 WC

It was pitchblack. Nothing could be seen. I tried to look through the darkness but I just couldn’t see through it. “Screeeeech” There was a funny noise coming from down the back... What was it? Scared to death, I stayed still. There was nothing but silence. Then all of a sudden, “BANG!” out of nowhere “CRASH!” I was hesitant to move but I knew I had to. So I got up, walked over quietly to the back of the hallway… “BANG!” another one!? Petrified, I ran. I just ran and ran and ran. The hallway was like an endless maze. There was no way out and then I saw it...

Blogging Challenge Week 6 (n.o 4)

What Happens At Lunch Times At My School

At my school how lunchtime works is we start at 12:30pm - 12:45pm we get 15 minutes to eat and then after we get 55 minutes (untill 1:25) to play games, talk to friends, order at our school canteen and sometimes if you play a sport like netball, sometimes you might have a practice during that 55 minutes. Games we would have during lunchtimes are volleyball (sometimes room 5 might set up the volleyball net), Bullrush (my favourite) a NZ game played on a field where people try make it to the end of the field without getting tackled which is usually supervised by a teacher, Basketball sometimes the teachers might even join in, Football on the football field, sports trials and sometimes if you're included in a cultural group such as KapaHaka or The Pasefika group you might have a practise wih you're tutors.
My school has 1 big main field which has the football field, the rugby field and the challenge (an obsticle course) around the main big field. We have 3 basketball/netball courts, 2 outside the east block and one outside the west block.
